SWINDON TOWN: Advanced matches are a hit at Dorcan
6:00am Saturday 13th October 2012 in Sport By Sam Morshead
THE Swindon Town Football in the Community Trust and North Wilts League advanced centres played their first ever under seven and under eight-level matches against the Swindon Town Centre of Excellence this week.
The games took place at the Dorcan Sports Centre astroturf, where Centre of Excellence director Jeremy Newton watched on.
He said afterwards: “This will give an opportunity for children from the advanced centres to showcase their talents against our STFC academy. “This is a game that we would like to organise throughout the season as we aim to strengthen our links with STFC Football in the Community.”
Advanced centre manager Shane Hewlett said: "This has been a fantastic start to our advanced centres as we strive to ensure that young talented players come under the wing of STFC and not rival clubs.
“We aim to expand our advanced programme to other areas in the county as well as adding another age group for children aged 11 to 13.
“I would also like to thanks the North Wiltshire League for their ongoing support.”
For more information on the advanced centres, call Shane on 01793 421303 or email shane@stfc-fitc.co.uk.
