SWINDON ROBINS: Can Morris secure hat-trick?

TEENAGER Nick Morris would cap a meteoric rise to the top of British speedway if the Robins are able to clinch the Elite League title this evening.

The teenager burst onto the scene in this country in 2010 as he played a part in Buxton’s National League success despite being absent for the play-off final, and the following year he made the step up to Premier League level with ease as Glasgow won the league.

Morris could yet retain the second tier crown after making this year’s play-offs with Scunthorpe, but never dared to dream of completing such a unique treble when he started out in this country.

“It would be awesome to get the third title, but it was just good to get the National League and the Premier League in my first two years,” he said.

“I am in the Premier League finals again with Scunthorpe which is great, but I never expected to be able to win the Elite League.

“In my first year I was just riding and having fun, but I was scoring pretty well and things have gone well since and I have moved up.

“It is awesome to be involved with two teams at this stage of the season and I would love nothing more than to win the finals for both teams.”

The teenager was on course to face Robins teammate and Somerset number one Jason Doyle in the Premier League final before the Australian suffered an injury, and Morris now wants to win the Elite League crown for his compatriot.

“It was really tough for Jason to miss the final, but we will be doing it for him,” he said.

“We missed him in the first leg, and when we did our track walk the word we came up with was ‘Doyley’ so we want to win it for him.”
