SWINDON WILDCATS: Nell eyes four-figure crowds at Link
6:00am Friday 19th October 2012 in Sport By Ned Payne
STEVE Nell is targeting the magic four figures as he bids to increase Wildcats’ attendances even further.
Swindon’s home gate has been on the rise in recent times and general manager Nell would love to average over 1,000 a week for home games.
Wildcats are currently just short of that at around a 950 average, but they have hit four figures on a number of occasions this season.
“The crowds are good, we’re up on last year slightly and any increase is always positive,” said Nell.
“You always want more but we’ve had some good crowds and people are seeing good games as well. There’s lots going on - fights, overtime, penalty shots.
“There was over 1,000 there last week (for the 6-5 overtime defeat to Sheffield), and if we could get over 1,000 regularly we’d be happy.”
Nell added that getting more fans into the Link Centre was having a beneficial effect on Swindon’s performances.
“It’s not just about the budget side of things, the crowds help get the players going and the team is heading in the right direction. It’s all positive,” he said.
“Once we’ve played Milton Keynes we’ll have played everyone and I’m confident we can beat everyone we play, whereas last year if we beat the top teams it would have been a one-off.
“The league is so tight this year and there’s no one we’re looking at thinking we’re going to have to play unbelievably to beat them.”
