FIGURES from both ends of the sporting spectrum will be honoured at the Swindon Advertiser Sports Awards of the Year next month.

The ceremony will see those in grassroots sport and elite level competitors honoured for their achievements.

Two awards are nominated and voted for by readers - Grass Roots Unsung Hero and Sports Personality of the Year - which could be won by an individual at any level of sport.

Included in the prestigious Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year categories are the likes of double Ryder Cup winner David Howell and IBO Intercontinental super middleweight belt holder Kelvin Young. Triple British swimming champion Jazz Carlin and Paralympic legend Anne Dunham are included in the sportswomen’s category.

The achievements of younger athletes are also recognised with British rhythmic gymnastics champion Laura Halford and Swindon Town’s Louis Thompson making their respective shortlists.

Organisations such as Wootton Bassett Football Club and Swindon Cricket Club are up for awards, alongside plenty of other individuals and clubs.

Our readers have the chance to vote and nominate over the next few weeks so keep your eyes trained on the Swindon Advertiser.
