WILL Crisp’s winter season is bubbling to a tremendous climax.

The 14-year-old Swindon Harrier wrapped up the Oxford Mail Cross Country League title on Sunday while also at the same time securing his fourth successive Oxfordshire County title.

The county championships had been postponed last month due to the original course being flooded so it was shifted to the final league match at Harwell.

“I don’t think I have ever lost an Oxfordshire Cross Country title as I won the under 11s first then the under 13 boys’ twice and now the under 15 boys’ race,” said Crisp.

“I also won the league title again after winning two of the races and finishing runner-up in the other two while the fifth match was cancelled due to the bad weather.

“I have been really consistent but there are still things to improve upon.”

Crisp, who is coached by Bryan Clinton at the Harriers, also recently added the Oxfordshire Schools’ Cross Country title to his burgeoning CV.

“I run the Oxfordshire Schools’ Championships because I go to Faringdon Community College,” added Crisp. “It was the third year running that I have won the county schools’ title and the English Schools’ Championships in two weeks’ time is one of my top targets as I am a top year junior boy and if I can finish in the top ten I would win an England vest.

“That is what I will be going for.”

But first Crisp will be on county duty at the Inter-Counties Championships in Birmingham this Saturday, March 8.

“I will have two big races in a week and I am really looking forward to them both,” said Crisp.

“Birmingham is the final race in the British Athletics Cross Country Challenge and I am in content for some prize money in the under 15s age group which would be very nice.”

Fellow training partner Ciaran Cooper also ran the final Oxford Mail League race on Sunday and finished sixth in the under 17 men’s race.

As for the under-15 boys’ race Crisp was beaten in the final fixture by Elliot Lassiter of Marlborough & District Juniors.

In the under 13 boys’ race Swindon Harriers’ Ben McIntyre was third and clubmate Miranda King was 19th in the under 17 women’s event. In the girls’ races Chloe Hayward was 27th in the under 13s and Sophie Hill finished 25th in the under 11s.
