KATE Jacobs continued her excellent start to 2015 with another sparkling personal best, writes KEVIN FAHEY.

The 38-year-old Swindon Harrier from Stratton St Margaret smashed her personal best in the B&Q Eastleigh 10k road race last Sunday with a time of 36 minutes.

That lopped a huge one minute off her previous best set in the Bourton 10k last month, which ended a four-year wait to improve her best at the distance.

“I was over the moon with the race and was really pleased with my run,” said Jacobs.

“To knock exactly one minute off from my previous best was great.

“It was a hard fight to the finish line and I just lost out to another girl in a big sprint finish but I still got sixth place and was first veteran over 35.”

Remarkably, Jacobs has run three races this year and recorded PBs in all three, having opened the year with victory at the Romsey five-mile road race (29:16) in Hampshire.

“Three personal bests in three races shows that my winter training is really working well,” added Jacobs.

“I have increased the volume of training a bit but not massively and I am probably listening to my body and my injuries more than I have done in the past.

“I have been working with it rather than against my body and it has been going well and hopefully that will continue.”

Apart from supporting her local race, the Highworth 5, Jacobs will now get back into some hard training in preparation for the summer campaign.

“I will be talking with my coach (Simon Burley) about my preparations for the summer and a possible target being the British Masters Championships,” added Jacobs.

“I was second last year in the 5,000m so it would be nice to go back and try and win it.”
