NYLE Clinton had no hesitation in declaring his summer campaign his best season yet.

The 20-year-old Swindon Harrier was speaking after ending his season with another personal best over 1500m at the British Milers’ Club meeting in Watford late last month, where he clocked 3:51.56.

That shaved one-and-a-half seconds off his previous record and was the third time he has bettered his best at the distance this summer, lifting him to 10th in the South West Rankings and second-quickest in Wiltshire behind British international Dave Bishop.

“It has been a bit of a breakthrough season for me to be honest,” said Clinton, who started the season with a 1,500m best of 3:57.63.

“I have run PBs at 1,500m, 3,000m, 5,000m and the 3,000m steeplechase, and I really feel I have progressed.

“I haven’t really concentrated on the 1,500m this season but I am delighted with how that has gone and if I can have a good winter, then I will be looking to make even more progress next year.”

Father and coach Bryan Clinton added: “This has definitely been Nyle’s best form for some time and he is on an upwards curve.

“The steeplechase was the big aim this summer but we probably didn’t do enough technical work and we will work harder on that next year, as well as keeping up the need for speed.”
