WILL Crisp can start planning for a big summer if the evidence of his indoor campaign is anything to go by.

The 17-year-old Swindon Harrier experimented with the boards for the first time in his career and the results have given him and coach Bryan Clinton huge confidence for the outdoor season.

Coach Clinton said: “Will ran four 800m races indoors and in every one ran a personal best.

“He is a very talented athlete and great to work with and his first indoor campaign has been a huge success.”

Crisp, who lives in Hinton Parva near Wanborough, opened up with one minute 55.51 seconds to win his heat of the London Games at the end of January and then two weeks later, improved to 1:55.37 in the Midland Championships.

By the time the England Athletics Championships came around, Crisp was really in the groove and clocked 1:54.04 in his heats and then a sparkling 1:52.72 in the final.

“Will was mixing it with the big boys in the final where the winner was so quick he went fourth on the UK All-Time List,” added Clinton.

“To be honest, he has surprised me this winter. He can have a few days easy now before we get back into training for the summer.

“I think the early season target will be the Millfield Games on Monday, May 1, and hopefully Will can get into the A race and get a quick time under his best. The summer is looking very exciting.”

Crisp’s time puts him third in the South West Rankings and second quickest under 20 – and that could get even better this summer.
