WILL CRISP admitted his double gold-medal winning achievement at the Wiltshire Track & Field Championships, was a big surprise.

The 17-year-old Swindon Harrier clocked a personal best of 50.63secs to win the senior men’s 400m and then added the 800m title in 1:53.78, which is his fastest time outdoors and only bettered once indoors this winter when he ran 1:52.72.

“I am not sure where these times have come from as I have not been doing that much training due to injury and with exams coming up,” said Crisp.

“I have had problems with my leg for ages now and my coach (Bryan Clinton) and I are trying to find a way to still train properly without putting too much stress on my legs.”

Crisp wasn’t the only Harrier to strike double gold on Sunday. Isambard Community School student Katie Loach did the double in the under 15 girls’ hammer throwing a PB of 35.54m and discus (20.25m) .

Also in the throws Zoe Large won the senior women’s shot and discus while rookie Issy Imeson won the under 13 girls shot and also added the 70m hurdles title in a PB time of 12.53secs.

Alex Martin did the double in the under 15 boys’ 80m hurdles (13.30secs) and triple jump (10.21) and there were also golds for Rachel Sykes (senior 800m), Hannah Lewington (under 13s javelin), Kiya Goodwin (under 15s 100m) and Josh Ricketts (under 17s hammer).
