WESTLECOT men clinched a place in the Wessex League end of season play-offs with a hard fought 72-71 victory over Carterton a fortnight ago.

The narrow victory saw them collect 14 points out of a possible 16 and pip both West Berks (Newbury) and Carterton for second place in the East Region table behind Loddon Vale (Basingstoke) and gain an automatic play-offs spot.

West Berks though were awarded a wild card but Carterton missed-out completely.

Tomorrow sees the start of the play-offs as Westlecot men begin their bid for glory and the overall Wessex League crown when they face Plymouth.

Owing to the distance between the two clubs the match will be staged on the neutral green at Taunton Deane from 10am.

The Old Town club and Plymouth met in the Wessex play-off final in April 2008 with Westlecot running-out 94-60 victors to notch their fourth Wessex crown.

However, their reign was ended the following year when Plymouth gained revenge in the play-offs.

Westlecot make two changes to the side that beat Carterton and a few positional switches.

Paul Kistle comes in to replace Keith Williamson who is unavailable while Kyle Anderson returns in place of Lawrence Smith a late replacement against Carterton.

Kistle comes in at lead in Ian Jefferies rink while Dave Godwin’s four is unchanged.

Anderson comes into Neil Smith’s rink at three with James Nobbs moving to two and John Thomas switching from Chris Cheesley’s rink to lead.

Cheesley’s rink has a new front end of the vastly experienced Dave Matthews and Mike Shawyer.
