WOOTTON Bassett’s David Godwin and Neil Smith have been called up as replacements for Wiltshire side in the Balcombe Trophy (Men’s National County Top Two Fours).

The duo come in as England international Graham Shadwell (Spencer Moulton) is ruled out of the west group tie against Devon at Bristol BC tomorrow (11.30am)and Westlecot’s Graham Hatherall is unavailable.

Godwin, originally named as first reserve, comes in as a straight swap for Hatherall at two in Ben Gadd’s otherwise all-Holt rink.

In the other foursome, Westlecot’s Mel Biggs drops down to skip in place of Shadwell. Smith comes into the rink at number three.

  • WILTSHIRE U25 men face Dorset tomorrow at Blandford (11am) in the White Rose Trophy - the junior men’s inter-county double rinks.

In recent years, Wiltshire have twice won the west group and qualified for the last four at Worthing.

Wiltshire U25s made an excellent start to the 2015 season by thrashing Somerset 99-59 in a friendly, then retaining the Four Counties U25 Festival Trophy Tournament at Westlecot.

  • THE county men’s national fours championship has reached the last eight, with the two finalists going automatically through to Leamington to represent Wiltshire in the latter stages.

The quarter-finals are at Wootton Bassett on Tuesday (May 26, 6.15pm).

The county men’s triples had reached the last 16, with eight matches were due to be played at both Holt and Pewsey Vale last night (Friday) and the quarter-finals at Westlecot next Friday (May 29, 6.15pm).

  • MEN’S county selectors were due to announce the Middleton Cup squad to face Warwickshire at Rugby on June 6 for the 2015 opening group match last night.

Wiltshire have been drawn in a five counties west group in the inter-counties championship and will also meet Dorset (away), then Worcestershire and Somerset at home at Wootton Bassett.

Only the group winner moves forward to the quarter-finals.

Last year, Wiltshire reached the semi-finals at Leamington but lost to eventual winners Hampshire.
