WESTLECOT’S hopes of a sustained run in national team competitions this indoor season took a hammer blow as they crashed out of three events in successive days, writes Dave Eaton.

They made a swift exit in the men’s Denny Cup, losing to MidGlos 89-62, while the following day, they were dumped out of the Top Club by North Wilts, losing 109-64, and then they lost out to Malvern Hills 43-38 in the Mason Trophy Over 60s ladies double rinks.

Meanwhile, Westlecot’s men have progressed in the men’s over 60 double rinks after Cotswold (Stroud) conceded the match.

RESULTS: Wesltecot v MidGlos: Home - Rink 2: John Anderson, Tom Pittuck, Kyle Anderson & Dave Godwin lost to Mark Perry 15-25. Rink 3: Gary Jackson, Terry Walton, Dave Snell & Mel Biggs lost to Nathan Kitchen 12-21. Away - Rink 3: Keith Williamson, Paul Kistle, Chris Cheesley & Neil Smith lost to Steve Knight 22-25 (20 ends). Rink 4: Kevin Embling, Denis Holborow, Mike Titcombe & Steve Remington lost to Jamie Speller 13-18.

Westlecot v North Wilts: Two Wood Singles - Ladies: Linda Perfitt lost to Ann Roberts-Phare 6-20 (0pts). Men: Kevin Embling beat Gordon Scott 15-11 (2pts).

Mixed Pairs: Rosemary Nichols & John Thomas lost to Dave Williams & Alex Jacobs 17-28 (0pts). Mixed Triples: Keith Williamson, Wendy Anderson & Steve Remington lost to Bob George, Fizz Mace & Sue Cooke 9-26 (0pts). Mixed Fours: Kay Webb, Josie Lloyd, Terry Walton & Mike Titcombe lost to Norma Rowden, Irene Button, Trevor Cooke & Alan Small 17-24 (0pts).

Westlecot v Malvern Hills: Home: Margaret Dowthwaite, Patricia Murray, Rosemary Nichols & Janet Willis lost to Pamela Harris 14-23. Away: Judy Hallard, Jill Webb, Josie Lloyd & Wendy Anderson beat S Cullis 24-20.

  • ANOTHER busy weekend is in prospect again for Westlecot sides in national team competitions after three defeats last weekend.

The ladies Yetton Trophy side play Cotswold (Stroud) today (10am) in a round two tie with two rinks home and two rinks away.

The under 25 side also play today (10am) in the second round of the David Cornwell U25 double rinks against MidGlos.

Tomorrow, Westlecot face Leominster & District in round two of the Egham Trophy.

The Westlecot men also have a Wessex League match tomorrow (10am) against Banbury Cross.

  • THE men's and ladies' champion of champions’ competition has already hit the area final stage in Area 10, with the Westlecot father and daughter duo of Neil and Katy Smith booking their places in the area finals.
  • WILTSHIRE women have announced the county side for the first round Atherley Trophy tie at home to North Wilts (Chippenham), against Somerset on Sunday November 15 (2pm).
