  • TEENAGER Katy Smith from the Westlecot indoor club has won the Area 10 final in the women’s champion of champions competition.

Following a 21-19 andl 21-16 wins over Diana Wright (Carterton) and Pauline Tuckey (Fairford) in the quarter and semi-finals respectively, the 18-year comfortably beat in the Area 10 final Gloucester IBC representative Jean Kemsley 21-7.

Smith moves forward to the inter-area final (last 32) and will face the Area 9 winner Amy Stanton (Welford-on-Avon) or Maureen Edwards (Rugby).

The inter-area final is the last hurdle before the champion of champions last 16 and final stages are decided in late January at the Lakeside Holiday Village on Hayling Island.

  • WILTSHIRE men are drawn against Gloucestershire in round one of the inter-county championship for the Liberty Trophy.

The match was originally scheduled to be played at North Wilts IBC (Chippenham) at 10am on Saturday, November 21 but the match has had to be switched, owing to a clash of fixtures.

Wiltshire County men’s indoor secretary Dave Williams said: “The North Wilts club now have a Yetton Trophy match starting at 10am against Clarrie Dunbar on this day and their opponents are unable to play at 2pm.

“The EIHA (English Indoor Bowling Association) yearbook states that the Yetton has priority over the Liberty this year.

“As the time was changed to 2pm, it caused the non-availability of players on both sides due to work and other national commitments, so we had to look at alternative venues to hold this game against our Gloucestershire opponents on the 21st.”

Williams continued: “After checking the width of the rink, confirming this with the EIBA and having it checked again by area and national umpire Peter Stewart, all six rinks will be playing at Westlecot next Saturday (10am)."
