SEMI-FINALISTS in all of the main ladies national championship events in Area 10 should be known after this weekend.

Matches are due to be played by tomorrow (Sunday), in ladies singles, pairs, triples and fours.

Old Town indoor club Westlecot are represented in them all.

Westlecot sisters Lucy Smith, 20 and Katy, 18, are through to the area semi-finals and meet in a showdown next month before January 17.

The Smith girls beat Janette Latten (Carterton) and her partner 21-14 in the pairs quarter-final to book a semi-final spot against Avril Hole (Cotswold) and her partner by January 17.

Janet Willis and her Westlecot partners beat a Cotswold trio skipped by Joyce Keating in the semi-finals of the triples 24-16 and await the outcome of the semi-final between Pauline Gunn (MidGlos) and Pamela Harris (Malvern Hills) to learn who they will face in the final next month.

Meanwhile in the Area 10 fours, only four teams entered the national championship event. In the top half of the draw the Smiths are joined by Charlie Godwin and Joanna Richman and face a foursome from Cotwold led by Pat Thornley, while in the other semi-final MidGlos teams led by Maryan Pye and Pauline Gunn face each other.

There was only one entry in the Over 50s Ladies two-wood triples, so Janet Willis’ team are the Area 10 champions and are fast tracked into the inter-area final.

 WESTLECOT were eliminated in the top men’s team event for the Denny Cup in the first round, losing 89-62 to MidGlos, but were given a second chance in the consolation Denny Plate competition.

The Swindon Old Town club have to date grabbed this second chance with both hands beating Gloucester 96-54 in round one and Carterton 78-50 in round two to set up a third round tie against Clevedon.

It was scheduled to be played last Saturday but clashed with the Westlecot Open Singles Tournament, however, with the full co-operation of Clevedon and the English Indoor Bowling Association it will be played this morning (Saturday) commencing at 10am - two rinks home at Westlecot and two away in Somerset at Clevedon.

However, Westlecot go into the match with a changed team from the one that beat Carterton and will be missing four of their Wiltshire county players through work commitments or unavailability - Neil Smith, Gary Jackson, Kyle Anderson and team manager Dave Godwin.
