TEAMS from Stratton Churchway and Highworth plus two from Purton all missed-out on qualifying for the county ladies triples final at Supermarine next month.

They all fell in the triples quarter-finals staged last Saturday at Wilton which also meant their chance to represent the county at the national championship later in the summer disappeared.

The Stratton Churchway triple of Josie Lloyd, Wendy Anderson and Janet Willis pushed the Devizes trio skipped by Sue Ochyra all the way but were edged out on the last end 18-17 while in the other match in the bottom half of the draw Highworth’s Maggie Jordan, Joanna Richman and Linda Kingston lost out to Amesbury skipped by Janice Rowe 23-18.

Purton’s Alison Fail’s trio lost out by four shots to a new Box line-up 16-12 while the Judith Fish triple lost heavily 30-11 against Devizes.

THE last eight in both the northern and southern sections of the ladies county and national pairs championships were staged at various venues around the county on Monday evening.

In the third round northern section, Lucy and Katy Smith from Royal Wootton Bassett as well as Supermarine’s Marilyn Kilburn and Pat Jones, Wanborough duo Jean Crepaz and Deanne Davis along with Highworth’s Joanna Richman and Linda Kingston were all successful and booked places in today’s quarter-finals and semi-finals at Holt.

PAIRS DRAW - Quarter-finals at Holt, today Saturday, June 18 (at 10.15am): Marilyn Kilburn & Pat Jones (Supermarine) v Joanna Richman & Linda Kingston (Highworth); Karen Funnell & Jean Collier (Box) v Lucy & Katy Smith (Royal Wootton Bassett); Eileen Hawker & Marilyn Jay (Spencer Melksham) v Lolly Braddon & Carol Grenfell (Box); Rose Merritt & Sue Ochyra (Devizes) v Jean Crepaz & Deanne Davis (Wanborough).

THE busy weekend of ladies national and county championship events commenced last night with the staging of the quarter and semi-finals of the two wood singles at Box.

Ginny Nash (Royal Wootton Bassett), Joanna Richman (Highworth) and Laura Latham (Swindon Town Gardens) had all qualified for the last eight.

However, the draw was dominated by players from the host club Box.

The two that were left standing at the conclusion of the quarters and semis last night will contest the county two wood singles final at the end of July at Supermarine and also qualified to represent Wiltshire at the national championships in Royal Leamington Spa in August.
