THE Wiltshire men’s county finals in national singles, pairs, triples, fours, under 25 and two wood singles are being held at Devizes tomorrow.

Royal Wootton Bassett lead the way with five of the 12 finalists, followed by Westlecot with two, while Purton have a single representation.

The other four finalists are equally divided between Spencer Moulton (Bradford-on-Avon) and Amesbury, with two apiece.

Men’s County finals tomorrow at Devizes (10am) - Fours: Kyle Anderson, Tom Walkley, Dave Godwin & Stephen Snell (holders, Royal Wootton Bassett) v Dave Hall, Eric Collier, Colin Baker & Dave Jones (Purton).

Triples: Keith Williamson, Kevin Carter & Ray Sowden (Westlecot) v Andy Colebrooke, Russell Francis & Graham Shadwell (Spencer Moulton).

(1pm) - Singles: Dave Godwin (RWB) v Neil Smith (RWB).

Junior (U25) singles: Tom Warner (Amesbury) v K Anderson (RWB).

Pairs: Dave Snell & Mel Biggs (RWB) v R Francis & G Shadwell (S Moulton).

(2.30pm) - Two Wood singles: Gary Jackson (Westlecot) v T Warner (Ames).

  • ROYAL Wootton Bassett will be represented at the Bowls England national championship finals next month at Royal Leamington Spa in two of the mixed national competition events – the family pairs and mixed fours.

Gary Morphet, who plays out of Bassett, and his 22-year-old son Craig, who plays for Westlecot, have reached the last eight in the family pairs while Lucy, Katy, their dad Neil Smith and Mel Biggs (all Bassett) are through to the last 16 in the mixed fours championship.

  • WILTSHIRE men, under the stewardship of president Peter Sanders (Spencer Melksham), enjoyed a comfortable victory over Warwickshire in their friendly match, played at Highworth.

They won by 26 shots, running out 130-104 victors and taking the honours on four of the six rinks.

Sanders had the distinction of winning the presidents' battle with visiting counterpart Clive Faulkner on rink four and recording Wiltshire’s biggest winning margin against Warwickshire of 19 shots.

RESULTS (skips only) - Rink 1: Alfie Maslen beat Malcolm Welch 23-15. Rink 2: John Southern beat Bruce Truman 23-19. Rink 3: Dave Williams beat Keith Hornsby 23-13. Rink 4: Peter Sanders beat Clive Faulkner (lead), Ian Kendal (skip) 29-10. Rink 5: Roy Major lost to Bernard Kendrick 17-20. Rink 6: Mel Williams lost to Richard Woodard 15-27.
