SWINDON & DISTRICT Ladies representative side were narrowly beaten in their annual friendly match against Wiltshire Ladies.

They lost by three shots as they went down 113-110 at Wroughton and only won on two of the six rinks.

Carol Woodward’s rink produced a big 14-shots winning margin, while Eileen Oliver’s quartet edged home by two shots.

S&D ladies led 27-23 across the board after five ends but trailed by six shots 52-46 after 10. They had fallen well back at 15 ends, being 94-65 adrift, and were still down 104-85 at 18.

However, a late surge saw them almost cut the deficit completely, only going down at the finish of the match by three shots.

Rink 2: F Eccott, J Hallard, J Watson & L Whittingham lost to J Webb, L Russell, J Corbett & T Jarrett 16-21. Rink 3: S Herridge, V Elston, A White & L Perfitt lost to J Hunt, C Sprott, N Oliver & P Jones 14-20. Rink 4: J Johns, J Lewis, C Coombs & S Baker lost to R Keen, G Truman, M Woolley & B Salter 18-22. Rink 5: B Rees, C Jayne, P Bevan & E Oliver beat D Godwin, M Kilburn, M Jones & F Mace 17-15. Rink 6: S Reeve, C Jones, L Plant & C Woodward beat A Roberts, D Edwards, C Burrows & S Gravell 27-13.

WILTSHIRE men have struggled so far this season in their friendly matches but managed to record a draw against Hertfordshire in their latest game.

Rink honours were also shared 3-3 at Berkhamsted, with Bill Collier, Richard Gardiner and John Wilks skipping their rinks to victories. Collier had the highest winning margin with a 30-17 success, while the other two both won by one shot margins.

RESULTS (skips only): Rink 1: Peter Sanders lost to Colin Dyer 17-19. Rink 2: Richard Gardiner beat Phil Havard 19-18. Rink 3: John Wilks beat David Brown 18-17. Rink 4: Bill Collier beat Mark Harris 30-17. Rink 5: John Buckland lost to John Loudon 16-22. Rink 6: John Southern lost to Keith Ames 17-24.

Score: Wiltshire drew with Hertfordshire 117-117.

THE quarter-finalists for the Wiltshire Men’s Four Rink League play-offs have been decided.

Area A has been won by Highworth on 201 points, while the race for second spot has been extremely close with West End scoring 162 points to Rodbourne Cheney’s 161.

In the annual battle in Area B between Royal Wootton Bassett and Westlecot, the former have come out on top with 201 points, while arch rivals Westlecot have 172 points but have one game to play.

In the other two areas, four rink league champions Holt have runaway again with the Area C title, with Spencer Moulton runners-up. As usual in Area D, it has been won by Amesbury, with Salisbury claiming second spot.
