WESTLECOT did the treble at the Swindon and District men’s association annual championships at Wroughton.

Rodbourne Cheney and Royal Wootton Bassett both collected doubles while the other three accolades went to Wanborough, Highworth and Town Gardens, who all recorded single wins.

However, Highworth’s Shaun Hicks lost in three finals.

He went down in the triples 19-11 to Rodbourne Cheney, edged out 21-19 by club-mate Mark Richman in the officers’ singles, despite leading 19-15, while Hicks was also part of the Highworth quartet that lost 79-34 to Wanborough in the Eddie Wells charity four rink triples final.

Westlecot’s three wins came in the O60s singles from John Thomas, who beat John Jafford (Marlborough) 21-10, and the mixed triples team of Colin Soule, Lynda and Brian Whittingham, who were always in control of their final against Wanborough.

The Old Town club completed their hat-trick of wins in the pairs final as Hugh Dawson and Ian Jefferies edged out Royal Wootton Bassett duo Andy Blake and Dave Godwin 19-18 after an extra end.

However, in the fours final, it was Godwin’s Bassett who were victorious after they defeated Westlecot 17-9.

Godwin completed a double with a 21-16 win over Highworth’s Richard Young in the champion of champions final, finishing with a flourish over the 19th to 22nd ends.

David Murray (Rodbourne Cheney) beat Westlecot’s Nathan Richards 21-15 in the U25 singles final, while the trio of Dave Royle, Dan Harvey and Steve Rose completed the Cheney double with a comfortable 19-11 win over Highworth in the triples.

Tom Pittuck (Town Gardens) needed 23 ends to see off Kevin Williamson (Westlecot) 21-18.
