WESTLECOT men enjoyed a fine victory in the east section of the Wessex League, however, Swindon Manor suffered a defeat.

The Old Town club, using a firm home foundation comfortably, parried the challenge offered by Banbury Cross to record a 23-shot victory and regain top spot from Carterton.

However, the Manor men were unable to build on their opening day victory when going down by 15 shots to Oxford City and County.

Westlecot were always in overall control against Banbury but could not shake-off the Oxfordshire side totally.

The two away rinks in Banbury were both adrift from the halfway mark but this was comfortably compensated by the powerful performance from the two home rinks skipped by Neil Smith and Kyle Anderson.

Across the board the Old Town club led 26-13 at five ends, 46-32 at ten, 70-53 and finally won 84-61.

They only won on the two home rinks so dropped four of the 16 points that were on offer but still collected enough to go back top of the table.

Swindon Manor slipped to fifth in the 10-team table following their defeat.

Manor’s two home rinks in Rodbourne battled tooth and nail for a seven shots win courtesy of Carl Fernandes rink while Paul Cooper’s quartet were edged out by a point.

However, the two Manor away rinks found life tough in Marston Ferry Road and lost overall 25-46.

Manor therefore only picked up two points from the fixture from Fernandes rink win.
