WESTLECOT’S mixed indoor team produced a superb performance to brush aside top Berkshire side Desborough in the Egham Trophy.

The Old Town Swindon club thrashed their Maidenhead counterparts, former winners of the top national mixed inter-club championship event three seasons in a row from 2011-2013, by the massive margin of 43 shots as they ran out 77-34 victors.

Tomorrow (Sunday) Westlecot’s mixed team enter the Egham fray again and meet another Berkshire side in the third round when they play Whiteknights (Reading), two rinks home and two away.

Westlecot make three changes to the team that comprehensively beat Desborough, with Kay Webb returning to replace Julia Hunt, Shaun Hicks coming in for Craig Hatherall and Jayne Croston for Rosemary Nichols, however, Mike Titcombe’s unchanged rink that recorded the biggest win over Desborough will now play away, with Steve Remington’s rink switching to play in their place at home at Westlecot.

The Old Town club are also still actively involved in four other national team competitions besides the mixed Egham Trophy when they play Whiteknights this weekend.

They are still running in two ladies competitions, Yetton Plate and Mason Trophy, O60s double rinks, the men’s O60s double rinks and the mixed U25s double rinks.

Following an awarded win over Malvern Hills in the men’s O60s double rinks, Westlecot’s senior men play MidGlos (Brockworth, Gloucester) on Tuesday, November 29 (10am) in the second round.

The ladies Mason Trophy side are not due to play Camberley (Surrey) in round two until Friday December 9, while the following day Westlecot ladies face Whiteknights (Reading) in the third round of the Yetton Plate.

However, the mixed junior side at Westlecot following a 37-28 victory over Oxford City and County in the David Cornwell U25s double rink competition do not enter the fray again until after Christmas.

The U25s mixed side will face MidGlos in the third round next year on January 22.
