SWINDON indoor clubs completed a fine double in the East region of the Wessex League last Sunday as Westlecot and Swindon Manor recorded fine victories over West Berks and Carterton respectively.

Old Town club Westlecot consolidated their position at the head of the table with a convincing 86-58 victory over last season’s runners-up West Berks.

They won on three of the four rinks to bag 14 of the 16 points on offer, with another powerful home performance responsible for the overall success. Neil Smith’s foursome won by 23 shots and Mel Biggs’ quartet by 11.

An improving Manor outfit enjoyed their best win since joining the East league back in 2014-15 with a 79-59 success over Oxfordshire side Carterton.

Manor collected 12 of the 16 points on offer but could easily have had two more. The away rink in Carterton, skipped by Paul Cooper, led throughout and went into end 18 15-12 in front but dropped a count of four to be piped at the post 16-15.

The foundations for their fine win were built at home in Rodbourne, with Ian Thomas’ rink winning by 16 shots and Richard Young’s rink by 15.

In the next series of matches on December 18, Westlecot and Manor lock horns but all four rinks will be played at Westlecot as the Manor green is booked for a county coaching session and permission to swap the date of the match has been refused.
