REVENGE will the cards for Westlecot’s junior side tomorrow when they face MidGlos in the David Cornwell U25 mixed double rink competition.

Two years ago, the Old Town club reached the semi-finals of the competition beating the Gloucester side 46-27 en route to the last four, where lost 44-41 to Kent side Swale 44-41.

However, last season the tables were turned with MidGlos defeating Westlecot U25 mixed side 46-38 in round two on the way to reaching the final before losing to Ipswich.

Westlecot have made two changes to the side to face MidGlos from the one that beat Oxford City and County 37-28 in round two.

Craig Hatherall who missed the previous game through illness returns while George Twine comes in for Zoe Fletcher. However, the away rink skipped by Mike Titcombe is unchanged.

THE ladies at Westlecot are still running in the Mason Trophy, national ladies Over 60s double rinks.

After a bye in the first round and second round win over Camberley, they face Reading’s Rivermead in round three on Friday, January 20.

The Mason Trophy and U25 mixed double rinks are the only national team competitions in which the Old Town club still have an interest.

However, it is totally different on the individual front in national championship and competitions which are slowing coming to the boil.

The foursome of Lucy and Katy Smith along with dad Neil Smith plus Ian Jefferies, who lost in the national mixed fours final on the last end last season at Lincoln, are just one match away from clinching a place in the last 16 this year at Loddon Vale IBC (Basingstoke).

They are through to the Area 14 final after a comfortable 18-7 semi-final victory over the Banbury Cross team of Carole Galletly, Kath Hawes, Nigel Galletly and Andrew Docherty.

The successful Westlecot quartet await the winners of Whiteknights (Reading), skipped by Andy Knapper, and Barry Jenkins’ Egham.

Neil Smith and youngest daughter Katy have also reached the area 14 mixed pairs semi-finals and have to meet Banbury duo Carol Galletly and Andrew Docherty in the area semi-finals today.

Meanwhile, Westlecot’s Mike Titcombe saw his hopes of reaching the last 16 of the men’s U25 championships at City of Ely next month disappear in the Area 14 final as he lost two sets to nil to BJ (Bernard) Byles (Whiteknights, Reading) who was a surprise winner of the OSC Westlecot Open just before Christmas.
