EIGHT TEAMS out of the 10 in the East Region of the Wessex League are in action today.

Swindon Manor, who have a couple of games in hand on most of the rest, face Chipping Norton home and away.

Seventh-placed Manor enjoyed a fine first half of the season, winning two of their opening four matches, including the big scalp of second-placed Carterton.

It was undoubtedly Rodbourne-based Manor’s best performance since joining the region in the autumn of 2014 and they also accounted for Banbury in their seasonal opener in October.

  • WESTLECOT’S hopes of progress in the David Cornwell Under 25 Double Rink came to an abrupt halt last Sunday in round three.

Beaten semi-finalists two years ago, the Old Town indoor club came out second best against their nemeses MidGlos (Brockworth, Gloucester), losing 43-28.

Westlecot’s last hopes of a national team success this season now rest with the senior ladies side.

They are due to meet Rivermead (Reading) later this week in the fourth round of the Mason Trophy women’s Over 60s double rinks. One rink will be played at Westlecot and one at Rivermead Leisure Centre.
