ROYAL Wootton Bassett's Kyle Anderson collected a double at the men’s county finals at Devizes on Sunday and a quartet of club colleagues won the inaugural Over 55 fours while Gary Jackson (Westlecot) partnered Anderson to success in the U25 pairs.

Anderson, who won the Wiltshire U25 singles final in 2010 added another with a 21-19 victory over Highworth’s David Murray in this year’s final.

In the inaugural men’s U25 pairs, he teamed up with Westlecot’s Jackson to register a comfortable 27-17 victory over the partnership of Tom Newman (Avon) and Holt’s Chris Poole.

Anderson suffered a loss in the county men’s two wood final against veteran Dave Betteridge (Trowbridge T), going down 14-9.

Bassett claimed another trophy when winning the new senior (O55) fours competition.

A quartet of Barry Sictorness, Terry Walton, Chris Cheesley and Mel Biggs defeated Chippenham Town led by Jeremy Haselton 22-15.

Pairs: Gary Fippen & Nick Grenfell (Spencer Moulton) beat Alex Wickham & Steve Heseltine (Chippenham Town) 17-15.

Two Wood Singles: Dave Betteridge (Trowbridge Town) beat Kyle Anderson (Royal Wootton Bassett) 14-9.

Fours: Wayne Simmonds, Justin Davis, Wayne Snook & Ben Gadd (Holt) beat Rob Clews, Jim Fitzpatrick, Richard Gainey & Neil Connor (Chippenham T) 27-4.

U25 Singles: K Anderson (RWB) beat David Murray (Highworth) 21-19.

U25 Pairs: Gary Jackson (Westlecot) & K Anderson (RWB) beat Tom Newman (Avon) & Chris Poole (Holt) 27-17.

LADIES from the Royal Wootton Bassett, Wanborough, Westlecot and Purton clubs all won titles at the women’s county finals day staged at Alderbury last Saturday.

Lucy Smith (Bassett) extended her brilliant run in the U25 singles, Deanne Davis (Wanborough) lifted her first county singles title, a new pairs team from Westlecot Jayne Croston and Lynda Whittingham claimed the pairs trophy, while the fourth local success came from the Purton trio of Chris Mitchell, Julie Jones and Alison Fail who won the triples.

Smith had previously won the Wiltshire junior (U25) singles title five times in the past six seasons from 2011 and the 22-year-old title holder made it a remarkable six wins out of seven beating Avon’s Georgina Newman 21-14 in a repeat of last year’s final.

Smith now represents Wiltshire at the national championships at Royal Leamington Spa for the fifth successive season in the U25 singles.

Davis lifted her first county ladies singles title with a 21-14 win over 2015 champion and last year’s beaten singles finalist Jean Collier (Box).

There was also a start-to-finish win for Purton’s Chris Mitchell, Julie Jones and Alison Fail, 19-15 over Salisbury in the ladies triples final.

The surprise was a new combination of Jayne Croston and Lynda Whittingham from Westlecot overturning former pairs winners Sue Cooke and Alex Jacobs (Box) 18-12.

Cooke and Jacobs plus Carol Grenfell and Kathryn Yeoman, the holders from Box, won the fours trophy defeating Wroughton 19-16 and Jacobs beat club colleague Yeoman 16-8 to comfortably retain the two wood singles crown.
