WESTLECOT have qualified for the final of the Wiltshire men’s Four Rink League play-offs final.

The Old Town club booked their place at Chippenham Town last Sunday as they denied two-time winners Holt, the southern area champions, the chance of reaching a sixth successive final.

Westlecot were 10 times winners of the tournament between 2002 and 2013 but finished second in the northern area section behind Royal Wootton Bassett. However, their shock 85-56 triumph saw them take the honours on three of the four rinks, losing by a single shot on the other.

Mike Jackson and Mike Richards’ rinks claimed 13-shot successes, MIke Titcombe's group winning by four while Jay Titcombe's rink was the only one to lose out.

Westlecot will meet either northern section winners Bassett or southern section runners-up, Chippenham Town, who play their semi-final today at Devizes (10.30am) during the opening day of the Bowls Wiltshire domestic finals. The final is scheduled for tomorrow at Devizes at 2pm.

Elsewhere on finals weekend, Haydon Wick's Brian Lobley is a surprise finalist in the men's champion of champions event where he takes on Spencer Moulton's Russell Francis, the national champion of champions finalist.

Westlecot’s Brian Whittingham plays Dave Betteridge (Trowbridge Town) in the greenkeepers final while clubmates Dave Matthews, John Thomas and Mike Shawyer face Amesbury's Norman Gould, Mike Tyler and Mickey Crook (Amesbury) in the BW men’s O60s triples.

Joyce Pheby and Keith Baker from Swindon North End meet Mere’s Don Butcher and Richard Coombs in the BW secretary and treasurers final, while Wanborough’s Julia Hunt, Deanne Davis and David Adams take on Devizes' Dave Greenwood, Bev Lilley and Gerald Webb in the BW Officers triples final.

Swindon Supermarine face Avon (Melksham) in the Bowls Wiltshire mixed double rinks final this morning.
