SWINDON Manor teams produced a disappointing set of results last weekend in both national and regional competitions.

The ladies lost on Saturday in the inter-club Yetton Trophy, while the men slumped to a heavy defeat in the east region of the Wessex League a day later.

A 75-53 victory over Chipping Norton last term meant confidence was high when they locked horns in their second group match of the season, in addition to a superb opening day 83-71 (14pts-2pts) win over Oxfordshire side Carterton.

Those hopes of a hat-trick of wins over Chipping Norton were blown away as Manor slumped to a surprise 28-shot loss as they went down 93-65 and only collected two points out of a possible 16.

However, the home foursome of Kevin Mitchell, Kevin Hillier, Paul Cooper and Geoff Porter stopped the rot with a seven shot 21-14 victory.

Elsewhere, in Rodbourne, Carl Fernandes’ four lost by 14 shots while away in Chipping Norton, but Stuart Murray’ s quartet fared even worse, losing by 15 shots while Richard Young went down by six shots.

In recent years Swindon Manor ladies have competed adequately in the Yetton Trophy and have avoided any big losses.

On Saturday that changed as they were thumped by 36 shots in a 96-60 defeat in their second round tie, following a first round bye saw them past Berkshire side Rivermead IBC.

Although, Swindon Manor ladies will have a chance to make amends as they have been entered in the consolation Yetton Plate and face Westlecot, who also lost, on Saturday November 18.
