SWINDON’S two indoor bowls clubs endured a mixed set of results last weekend in the men’s regional competition for the Wessex League.

In east region games, Old Town-based Westlecot recorded a comfortable 84-61 victory over Rivermead (Reading), while Rodbourne Cheney-based Manor went down 66-82 to second-placed West Berks (Newbury).

Westlecot took the honours on three of the four rinks and drew on the other against Rivermead to collect 15 of the 16 points on offer.

In sharp contrast, Manor only won on one of the four rinks against West Berks, with Richard Young’s foursome triumphing by 11 shots.

Westlecot rise to third spot in the table, only nine points behind West Berks and 21 adrift of leaders Loddon Vale (Basingstoke) but with a match in hand.

Manor slip from sixth to seventh on 44 points, five above Rivermead and six clear of Oxford & District.

Manor and Westlecot meet today in their rescheduled east region derby that has been previously been postponed twice.

The Manor side shows four changes to the team that played West Berks last Sunday, while Westlecot make six changes to the one that beat Rivermead last Sunday.
