WESTLECOT’S mixed David Cornwell U25 two rink triples quarter-final against Torquay United IBC at Bristol City and County was postponed for the second time in a fortnight last Sunday because of the snow.

The match was re-arranged for Tuesday evening at Taunton Deane, with Westlecot forced to re-arrange their side owing to unavailability, work commitments, and switch positions with Lucy Smith ruled out.

Young Jake Webster came into the side in Mike Titcombe’s rink with Katie Smith switching to Kyle Anderson’s rink but Westlecot lost 22-31.

Anderson’s team drew 13-13 but Titcombe’s trio went down 9-18.

Overall the match was close for the opening 10 ends with Westlecot only 11-14 down but their problems started on end 11 with Titcombe dropping a four and going from 7-4 up at nine ends to trail 7-18 at 15 ends after dropping another count of four.

Torquay move forward to the semi-finals in Nottingham against St Neots (Cambs) on April 7. The final will also be played on the same day.

This loss means that Westlecot have now been knocked-out of all national team events and competitions this season.

RESULT

WESSEX LEAGUE play-off fixtures were badly hit by the bad weather again last weekend.

The Westlecot versus Bromsgrove quarter-final has been re-scheduled for this Sunday, as have the other three quarter-final matches.

A wild card entrant, Bromsgrove, only third in the midland section, will provide formidable opposition. They ousted the holders Clarrie Dunbar, four time play-off winners in the past nine years, 82-73 in a shock opening-round result.

Two rinks will be played at home on Sunday at Westlecot and two rinks away in Bromsgrove.

In the other quarter-finals on Sunday, Cotswold (Stroud) will face Dolphin (Poole) at West Berks (Newbury); Carterton will meet Plymouth at Bristol City and County while Malvern Hills (Worcs) will play Atherley (Southampton) home and away starting at 11am.
