TOMORROW'S Wessex League final, hosted by Swindon's Westlecot club, will be the last using the current format.

Westlecot, who have won the title four times, have to settle for hosting this year's showpiece tomorrow (11am) between Bromsgrove (Worcs), who conquered the Swindon side in the quarter-finals, and Atherley (Southampton).

From next season, the existing six Wessex League regions will be revamped to become eight - Midland, Mercia, Thames, Cotswold, Coastal, Jurassic, Central and West.

Westlecot and Swindon Manor will both move out of the old east region into the new formed seven-team Thames region along with Banbury, Oxford City & County, Oxford & District, Rivermead (Reading) and West Berks (Newbury).

The increase in regions from six to eight means wild card entrants to the play-offs will be dropped as the 16 teams will in future be drawn from the eight regional winners and eight runners-up only.

Meanwhile Westlecot's indoor club championships have finally been completed.

The outstanding men’s triples final was played last week with a win for the trio of Paul Kistle, Keith Williamson (sub for Mike Richards) and Mike Titcombe who beat Paul Dawson, Barry and Tom Pittuck 20-18.

Titcombe’s triple were cruising at 19-6 up with four ends to play but Pittuck's rink staged a late recovery scoring 12 shots and only dropping one to make the final score 20-18 in favour of Titcombe’s trio.

This triples result meant that Titcombe became the most successful bowler in the 2018 Westlecot indoor club championships with three wins having previously won the U25 singles and men’s pairs with Kistle.

It also took Kistle’s total to joint second on two wins alongside Janet Willis and her doubles partner Wendy Anderson.
