County targets Middleton Cup joy
WILTSHIRE Men's Bowls Association are led by president Mel Williams (Highworth) and have two Middleton Cup trial games against Oxfordshire (May 4) and Berkshire (May 10) at Chippenham Town (2pm).
The competition, the national inter-county championship, sees Wiltshire competing back in the South West group again.
They face Cornwall and Dorset away at St Austell and Dorchester respectively on May 31 and June 21. They will entertain Somerset and Devon on June 7 and July 5 at Chippenham Town.
The selectors have selected two teams to take part in the trial matches on May 4 and 10.

Versus Oxfordshire (Sunday, May 4)

The county play at Alderbury (75th anniversary) on June 22, seven days after helping to celebrate Swindon BC's centenery.
The next month sees president Mel Williams take his representative team to Malmesbury for centenary celebrations on July 20 and to Cricklade (80th anniversary) the following Sunday.
The county championship semi-finals in national singles, pairs, triples and fours, that decide who goes to Worthing, will be held at Chippenham Town on Sunday, July 13.
The finals are scheduled for Saturday, July 26 at Westlecot, while the county competition finals day will be held at Chippenham on September 7.
The annual Wiltshire Bowlers Joint Council mixed galas, in aid of the men and womens' benevolent funds, take place on Sunday August 17 at three venues around the county.
Wiltshire County Women's BA, under the presidency of Sue Raymond (Chippenham Town), open their 2008 season with a John's Trophy (inter-county championship) trial game at Devizes.

WILTSHIRE women then face Hampshire in the preliminary round of the competition at Three Mile Cross (near Reading) on May 27.
And they are drawn against Hampshire in the first round of the Walker Cup Double Rinks at Didcot on June 5.
Chippenham Town also hosts the county ladies finals day on July 21 and county competitions day on September 5.
It will also be the venue for county ladies final representative game of the season - a clash with the county men on September 10.
