Wiltshire primed for Middleton Cup
WILTSHIRE men will compete this year in the South-West section of the Middleton Cup against Somerset, Devon, Cornwall and Dorset.
The county cup selectors have chosen the following side to take part in the first of three trials matches in readiness for the inter-county championship that begins at the end of May with a visit to St Austell to face Cornwall.
The trial team will play Oxfordshire at home on Sunday, May 4 (2pm) at Chippenham Town Bowls Club.
Rink 1: Allan Stell, Norman Gould, Jeremy Hazelton and Steve Heseltine (all Chippenham Town).
Rink 2: Richard Jennings (Chip T), Terry Spreadbury, Steve Mitchell (both Amesbury) and Billy McCay (Chip T).
Rink 3: Ben Hatton (Amesbury), Dan Hodges (Holt), Paul Macdonald (Spencer Moulton) and Gary Morphet (Rodbourne Cheney).
Rink 4: Stewart Allison, Martin Whittaker, Malcolm Drew (all Westinghouse) and Andrew Colebrooke (S Moulton).
Rink 5: Michael Snell (Wootton Bassett), Dan Hoskins, Des Rideout and Mike Jackson (all Westlecot).
Rink 6: Tony Keating (S Moulton), Chris Cheesley (Purton), Ben Gadd (Holt) and Ian Williams (Purton).
Res: Mike Shawyer and Jeff Nichols (both Westlecot).
SHRIVENHAM Bowls Club will be holding their annual open day this coming Saturday, May 3 (10am-4pm).
Past bowlers and newcomers to the sport are invited to come along to their Martens Road green and enjoy a roll-up - fully qualified coaches will be on hand to assist.
WOOTTON BASSETT Bowls Club have run a very successful junior section over the years and linked up with the local secondary school.
They will be holding another Novices Evening, on Friday, May 9 (from 6pm onwards) where all non-bowlers are invited to attend. Special coach will be available.
All equipment will be supplied but attendees are asked to wear small sole trainers or plimsoles.
