SWINDON boxer Kelvin ‘Young Gun’ Young suffered a shock defeat on Saturday night at the GL1 centre in Gloucester when stopped in the last second of a four-round fight against Hampshire journeyman Sam Couzens, writes WILL HALE.
After a bright opening round in which Young stuck to his controlled, educated boxing, the Penhill fighter was lured into a toe-to-toe shootout.
The fight was exciting but Young lacked the power to trouble his more experienced opponent.
The fight was stopped after Young was dropped to his knees by an uppercut in the fourth and last round.
The 26-year-old, desperately tired and bleeding heavily from the nose, tried bravely to get to his feet but the referee waved the contest off.
It was a third stoppage defeat for the popular super-middleweight against 12 wins, and the second in three fights following his English Middleweight title eliminator loss to Tony Hill at the Oasis last year.
