WALCOT boxers Mikey McDonagh and Sammy Price are on the glory trail this Sunday when they compete in the National Schoolboys quarter-finals in Bodmin, Cornwall, writes Dave Veysey.
Twelve-year-old Mikey aims to follow in the tournament footsteps of older brothers Tommy, Patrick and Jimmy - all previous national schoolboy champions. He takes on Thomas Rolfe from the Repton Boys Club in London, in a Class A, 32.5kgs contest.
Both these pint-sized terriers will undoubtedly put on a great show for the expected large audience.
Also representing Walcot will be Mikey’s cousin Sammy Price.
The-14-year-old meets Newham’s Alfie Mehegan in a Class B, 43kgs bout.
Sammy’s older brother Michael won the schools championship last season, so like Mikey, Sammy also has a tough act to follow.
Walcot Chief Coach Harry Scott said: “Both these lads have trained hard in the gym and deserve their chance. “It’s never easy against the London region but we will give it our best shot.”
