RICHARD Farnan feels that Tariq Quaddus could claim his first stoppage victory on Saturday night.

The Swindon-based super-middleweight tackles Jamie Ambler at the Oasis Leisure Centre on the undercard of Kelvin Young’s first defence of his IBO inter-continental title.

With the 23-year-old slated to go over six-rounds for the first time, his trainer said that he would not be surprised if his charge ended the contest early.

“I don’t expect Tariq to lose a round, I expect him to be quite emphatic,” Farnan said.

“He has been ready for six rounds for a while, he is not going to struggle with it – but it might not even go six rounds.”

Quaddus, a former junior ABA champion, has found a new zest for the sweet science after returning to the ring in March following a five-and-a-half year absence.

Ambler is no stranger to the 23-year-old hard-hitter after he faced the Welshman when making his professional debut at the Aston Villa Leisure Centre in 2008.

The pair were due to meet last month as Quaddus made his first pro outing in his hometown of Peterborough, but the 29-year-old withdrew just days before the fight leaving Farnan’s fighter to face the seasoned veteran Jody Meikle.

“We had a game plan for Jamie Ambler in Peterborough, but he pulled out so we had to quickly change what we were doing to suit Jody Meikle.

“Tariq did something to Jody, what I was told by Gary Barran in our corner, he had only seen Frank Buglioni do that job on Jody before.

“Jody was in shape, because the following week he was fighting Sam Couzens in his retirement fight, he trained hard, but didn’t get a look in.

“We have carried on that game plan now for Saturday night and Jamie Ambler is a seasoned hardened pro, who doesn’t get stopped, he has been the distance with Paul Smith.

“I’m not going to hold my breath but this might not go the distance.”

Farnan feels that Quaddus has been ready to do the six rounds for some time now, even before he stepped into the ring with Meikle in May.

“He has been there ready for six rounds since before the Meikle fight,” Farnan said.

“He got out of the Meikle fight he wasn’t even blowing, he was warmed up and ready to go, he could have done another two rounds, probably another four.”
