TARIQ Quaddus is being tipped for the top after a week of stellar sparring.

The Swindon-based super-middleweight has been working with hot British prospect Callum Smith and Chris Eubank junior this week.

And the 23-year-old’s trainer Richard Farnan says that both Smith’s camp and Eubank’s team were delighted with how Quaddus went in Bolton and Brighton.

The trip north to Joe Gallagher’s gym on Monday to face Smith was the second time in four days, while on Wednesday at Ronnie Davies, who also trained Eubank’s father Chris senior, was equally impressive.

“They (Eubank and Davies) want us back as straight away,” Farnan said. “They were really impressed with Tariq.

“Even Chris’ dad was giving Tariq advice and what shots to throw and that advice is just gold.

“They want us back next week, but it means Tariq having to take a day off work, it will probably be the following week before we can get there.

“In five days, Tariq has sparred 27 rounds with Callum Smith and Chris Eubank junior, that is better than any late fight we could get against a journeyman over six-rounds.

“Once the fight in Greece didn’t happen we sat down and spoke about it and feel that this sparring he is getting is so much more beneficial.”

Farnan said that both Gallagher, Smith’s trainer, and Davies, Eubank’s cornerman, feel that Quaddus can have a bright future in the sport.

“Tariq had to dig in at times against Chris, but he did it and came back - that really impressed them,” Farnan said.

“They said that Tariq could be a future champion.”

With the season coming to an end, Farnan says he will now look to get Quaddus out again in September with the aim to try and secure a shot at a title before the end of the year.

“Maybe we could look at a Southern Area title shot before Christmas,” Farnan said. “I think light-heavyweight would be the easiest route.

“But I’d happily look at super-middle for Tariq. If Sam Couzens beats Frank Buglioni I’d look to make that fight straight away.

”However, Frank is a good fighter and a tougher opponent, but beatable, I think he looks one-dimensional.

“If we can’t get a Southern Area title then we will look at a Masters’ title for him.”
