PADDY Fitzpatrick has hinted that Swindon could be set for a third professional boxing show.

The trainer of world super-middleweight contender George Groves and Luke Watkins says that the Sauerlands, Groves’ promoters, have signalled an interest in bringing a show to Swindon.

The Ferndale Road-based coach will have his 24-year-old cruiserweight Watkins on Keith Mayo’s November 1 show at Swindon Oasis.

The Duke, who claimed his second win of his professional career last weekend in Germany, is being lined-up to be the co-main event with IBO super-middleweight inter-continental champion Kelvin Young.

The Penhill pugilist is set for an eight-round international contest as talks about securing him a world title shot in January are on-going.

The Mayo show will include Swindon-based super-middleweight Tariq Quaddus, former Walcot and England amateur Ryan Martin.

Also set to fight on the bill is another of Fitzpatrick’s charges - Garvey Kelly, who is supposed to be making his professional debut.

But while the contracts with Mayo are still be signed Fitzpatrick has hinted at putting on a show in Swindon.

“We could put on our own show in Swindon” Fitzpatrick told the Advertiser.

“The Sauerlands have hinted that they might be interested in doing something here.”

If Fitzpatrick and the Sauerlands do put together a show for Swindon it will likely follow Mayo’s own bill.

While Jamie Cox’s manager Lee Beard and trainer John Costello are putting on a show at the Oasis for the former Commonwealth light-middleweight champion on December 6.

However, Fitzpatrick says that Watkins is unlikely to feature on that show.

“Duke is going to be out twice in December, the first being the sixth in Germany and the second towards the end of the month on the undercard of George’s next fight,” Fitzpatrick said.
