KELVIN Young will face Kiril Psonko in an eight-round battle at the Oasis Leisure Centre next month.

The IBO super-middleweight intercontinental champion will be hoping that this bout will be a tune up for a possible world title shot in the new year against Donovan George.

The Penhill pugilist must first overcome the Lithuanian 28-year-old veteran of 47 contests on the BY Any Means Necessary show on November 1.

Psonko was last in action in September when he faced Ricky Summers in Dudley for the International Masters light-heavyweight title.

The Tipton Digger secured an eighth round stoppage over Psonko, who has failed to see the bell in 10 of his 32 defeats.

However, Young, who will be competing in his 20th professional contest, will have to be on his guard against the Pitbull as he nine stoppages in his 13 wins.

Young’s trainer Richard Farnan said: “Psonko doesn’t get stopped very often – he took Tom Baker and Frank Buglioni the distance.

“I know that he was stopped in his last fight, but we were sparring with Ricky Summers a couple of weeks ago and he is a big-hitting light-heavweight.”

With Young pencilled in for some form of title fight in the spring, Farnan wants his charge to blow away his cobwebs from the June Francis Tchoffo bout.

“I want Kelv to go in there and get the rounds under his belt – get rid of any rust from the summer,” Farnan said.

“I’m not expecting Kelv to go after the stoppage – if the opportunity is there then he’ll take it – but what I do expect is Kelv to give him a boxing lesson.”

Tickets for the show are priced £60 VIP/ringside or £35 unreserved. For more information visit www.kmpromotions.co.uk
