KELVIN Young says he is not looking beyond Kiril Psonko, despite the prospect of a world title fight in the new year.

The IBO super-middleweight inter-continental champion will face the Lithuanian Pitbull at the Oasis Leisure Centre on November 1 in an eight-round non-title contest.

But while the Penhill pugilist is focused on the 28-year-old switch-hitter, his manager and promoter Keith Mayo is in talks with IBO world champion Donovan George about a potential fight next year.

Young, who will be making his 20th outing in the paid ranks a week today, knows that he cannot afford to slip-up against Psonko as, of the 13 wins he has on his record, nine have come inside the distance.

“I don’t think about what is down the line,” said Young, who has only had three defeats in his career. “If it comes, it comes. I have just got to concentrate on my next fight.

“This is my milestone, this is my 20th fight. I have got to go out there and produce the goods on my 20th – it is a milestone. Not a lot of people can say that they have had 20 pro fights. It has been a long road.

“I have had my ups and my downs, I have had a few downs.

“But I have not let it get to my head. I have kept on training, kept on believing in myself. I do believe that I have got a lot more to give.

“When I had my losses I bounced back - I have bounced back every time.”

The 27-year-old, who will share top billing with Luke Watkins on November 1, admits that, after his last fight in June against Francis Tchoffo, which Young won by a majority points decision, he let himself go on too long a break.

While Young has overcome a cold during this training camp, he knows that he has to produce the goods come fight night.

“At this stage of my career, all the fights are big - every one I have. I can’t have any slip ups,” he said.

“We are aiming for big things so I have to look good. In my last fight, it was a toe-to-toe war, a great crowd pleaser, but we have got to keep producing the goods.

“It took a lot out of me for the first month after (the last fight). I had a long break, which I needed, and I had nearly two months off.

“I didn’t come back in great shape. I did let myself go a little bit but after that last tough fight, I needed to let my body go. But on fight night, I’ll be flying.”

There will be an open workout at Fiztpatrick’s Gym today from 11am, involving Young, Luke Watkins, Tariq Quaddus Ryan Martin and Garvey Kelly.
