RYAN Martin is looking forward to getting out of his comfort zone when he fights in Bristol next month.

The 20-year-old is set for a swift return to the ring following last weekend’s fourth round stoppage win over Jamie Ingleby and will box on the undercard of Lee Haskin’s international bantamweight contest with Mexican Willy Valaquez.

And with the former England and Walcot amateur’s first two fights in the paid ranks in Swindon, the welterweight is relishing getting on the road.

“It was great on Saturday night, fighting in front of all my friends and family,” Martin said. “But this fight in December is perfect for me.

“Fighting in Swindon is in my comfort zone. This time I’m going to be the away boy. I’m going to enjoy that – it is taking me out of that comfort zone.”

With the opponent still to be confirmed, the Islan Eltuyev-trained boxer insists that there will not be any weight issues in December.

On the morning of his fight with Ingleby, Martin had to shed two pounds and said that he was feeling tired at the end of the third round before stopping his opponent.

“I’ve already had an earful from Islan,” Martin said. “He has told me not to go mad on the pizzas.

“I think the weight problem came from muscle mass – I had been training so much since March. The weight didn’t fall off like it did for my first fight.”

Since turning pro at the start of the year, Martin, a former junior ABA champion, has been training with Eltuyev, who also trains the Southern Area cruiserweight champion Lawrence Bennett, and is delighted with how the relationship is developing.

“Islan is a quite a reserved bloke. He doesn’t really like the limelight,” Martin said. “I get on really well with him and he is great to work with.”

Martin’s manager and promoter Keith Mayo will be putting on a coach to Bristol for the fight while tickets are priced at £35 and £60 for the show. For more details call Mayo on 07789 890453.
