HORSESHOE boxers are heading to Truro today to compete in the Western Counties Novice finals.

George White, who is only in his fifth contest, faces a boxer from Emeralds Boxing Club in Chippenham.

Highworth's Samuel Vallis, Horseshoe boxer of the year last season, takes on Tiverton ABC’s Chris Briant.

Vallis is the more experienced with 10 bouts behind him winning six, however, Briant has won seven from nine contests.

The duo will be hoping to join club mate Gary O'Reilly, who has a bye to the next round, in the quarter-finals of the All England tournament against the Home Counties on Sunday, November 23.

The event, which will see the first bell ring at 2pm, will be hosted by Horseshoe at St Joseph's Catholic College in Ocotal Way. Entrance is £10 for adults and £5 for under 14s. Horseshoe will also be holding a dinner which will see Swindon’s Ricky Porter launch his book on Friday, November 21 at the Grange Drive Community Centre with former welterweight world champion John H Stracey the guest speaker.

The cost for this night is £40, which includes a three-course dinner, a fund raising auction as well as up to 10 amateur bouts. For tickets contact Horseshoe head coach Brian Roberts on 07960 009472.
