HORSESHOE ABC have three boxers in the semi finals of the All-England Championships.

George White received a bye into the semis, but Sam Vallis and Gary O’Reilly had their work cut out, having to travel down to Hastings on the south coast a three-and-a-half hour journey for their encounters.

Representing Horseshoe and the Western Counties, Vallis had to face Lewis Dentith, from Team Wiseman and the Home Counties.

In the first round, both boys had success with fierce punching throughout the round.

In the second round, it was Dentith who came out on top of the first exchange, but his showboating allowed Vallis a way back into the fight.

In the final round, Vallis went toe-to-toe with his rival and came out on top with a unanimous points decision.

Coach Mark Brown said: “It was his toughest bout to date and he keeps getting better.’’ Inspired by his colleague’s effort, O’Reilly took on much-fancied Exeter boxer Mohammed Hussein who had plenty of support.

A stylish fighter, Hussein was a counter puncher hoping Reilly was going to rush in.

But O’Reilly picked his punches, stealing points and staying composed and, as the bout progressed Hussein, found himself wanting.

In the last round, Hussein was the one chasing but found himself being countered.

Surprisingly O’Reilly only won on a split decision.

This Saturday the three Horseshoe boxers box their semi finals against London in south London.
