NEW British Masters Bronze champion Tariq Quaddus has finally got his hands on the belt he won on Sunday night in Leicester.

After completing a sensational points victory over Sam Couzens, Quaddus was unable to be presented with the belt after the host promoters left it locked in their office.

Four days later however, Quaddus' manager/promoter Keith Mayo arranged for the belt to be delivered to the Horseshoe Gym in Swindon and has since bought it outright so that the light heavyweight star can keep it forever.

Despite not initially receiving the belt both Mayo and Quaddus admitted it did not take the shine off a fantastic victory.

"I only had to wait a couple of extra days but it's here now. The main thing was to perform and win the fight," said Quaddus.

"I'll tick over now throughout Christmas, I've had two days off and then Wednesday night I was back in. It's been like a weekend off really.

"It took a bit out of me but I think that's because it was a long day, we thought we would be in the ring about 5pm but I don't think the fight started until 7.30pm. Then it was a long drive back to Swindon and then back at work at 9am the next day."

Mayo was delighted with the victory and to finally see the British Masters title in Quaddus' hands, adding: "By all accounts it (the belt) was locked in someone's office and we couldn't get it out. We had it sent down and it arrived on Thursday.

"It is disappointing not to have it on the night but he won it and that's the main thing. It is just one of those things. We've bought it for good now so this is now Tariq's to keep.

"Tariq was fantastic, he did everything he had to do. We are delighted. We thought Sam Couzens was finished in the second round but he came back. It was a real crowd pleasing fight and Tariq was sensational, he impressed a lot of people, he was looking good and it's onwards and upwards now.

"We'll look to get him out again in February and we'll be looking at opponents soon. I think we'd get him in another fight like this one and then we'll look at what titles are about and push him on."
