LAWRENCE Bennett is hoping that a change in manager and promoter will help propel him towards his dream of becoming British champion.

The 32-year-old cruiserweight has joined forces with Goodwin Promotions after three years with Swindon’s KM Promotions and manager Keith Mayo.

While the Southern Area champion will always be grateful to the Greenbridge-based Mayo, he feels his new team will help push his career even further.

“I can’t thank KM Promotions and Keith Mayo enough for what they have done for me,” Bennett told the Advertiser.

“Keith gave me my shot at turning professional and got a shot at the Southern Area and a British title eliminator.

“I loved boxing in Swindon and hopefully I’ll be able to come back and do it again, but right now I feel that this is right move for me.”

Bennett’s last fight under Mayo was a British title eliminator points victory over Midlands Area champion Chris Keane.

Now the self-styled Bad Boy feels that his new manager Steve Goodwin and his connections with leading British promoters Matchroom and Frank Warren is the right way to go.

“Because I was a free agent I held talks with a number of promoters but I just felt that Steve Goodwin and Goodwin Promotions was right for me,” Bennett said.

“They have good links with Matchroom and Matchroom fightpass.

“They have good links with Eddie Hearn and the connections to Sky and Frank Warren as well.

“I’m really excited to be joining and their vision for me. I don’t know how far I can go, but I want try and become the English champion and the British champion and I feel that Goodwin Promotions can deliver that for me.”

With Bennett now unlikely to fight in Swindon in the near future, he says that he is expecting to be out in February as he his new chapter begins.

“I don’t know what it’ll be in February yet,” he said. “There is no mandatory for my Southern Area title so I don’t have to defend that yet – but I may.

“It could be another 10-rounder or it could be a six-rounder, who knows.

“It is the big shows in London where I feel I need to be, I want to be boxing at the O2 and Wembley Arena.

“I’ve said before I don’t just want to be king of Swindon – I want the whole country talking about me.”

Bennett’s former stablemate and newly-crowned British Masters Bronze champion Tariq Quaddus has finally got his hands on the belt he won on Sunday night in Leicester. The belt had been locked in an office and not available for presentation after Quaddus had vanquished Sam Couzens .

Meanwhile, Neilsons Promotions will be holding their final white collar boxing show at the Swindon Oasis Leisure Centre tonight.

There will be 14 fights on the bill starting 7pm, tickets are priced £20, £40 and £60.
