PADDY Fitzpatrick will look to crown Eamonn O’Kane the king of the world at the County Ground.

The Ferndale Road trainer is meeting with officials from Swindon Town today to talk about staging an outdoor event at the home of the Robins this summer.

And with Fitzpatrick’s middleweight on the verge of a shot at the vacant IBF title, the aim is to look to stage at SN1.

With former undisputed 160lb king Jermain Taylor stripped of his title, it is looking like O’Kane, who is ranked eighth by the IBF, will be the man to face number one contender Hassan N’Dam.

Fitzpatrick told the Advertiser German star Felix Sturm has been offered the chance to face N’Dam first but given the fact he has been fighting at super-middleweight level it would be unlikely that he will be willing to drop down in weight.

And it appears that the next available contender for the Frenchman is the Swindon-trained Northern Irishman.

Fitzpatrick has already begun talks with N’Dam’s manager Gary Hyde about the possibility of the fight.

While the trainer, who has joined forces with Keith Mayo’s KM Promotions for Friday’s World Awaits show at the Oasis Leisure Centre, focusing his attentions on his fighters for their upcoming bouts, he says that he has already floated the idea with Swindon Town.

“I will be speaking to them at the match today about it and it would be great if we can have a world title fight on it,” Fitzpatrick told the Advertiser.

“I did speak to Swindon Town football club last year about putting on a big amateur show and they were open to it.

“But it has to happen at a very certain time of year because it would have to happen when they were finished with the pitch but not yet going to rip it up - just before that.

“There is no reason why we can’t go in there later this year and put on a big professional show that to me is something that is appealing.

“With a world title on it, we will looking at making it a 15,000-seater-venue.

“It will be reasonable too in the aim to fill the stadium - it is possible.”
