GARVEY Kelly says that being in Fitzpatrick’s Gym is like having an extended family.

The 26-year-old will make his third outing in the paid ranks tomorrow night when he tackles southpaw Faheem Khan at the Oasis Leisure Centre on the ‘World Awaits’ show.

The welterweight is one of three fighters out of Paddy Fitzpatrick’s stable that feature on the bill, with Swindon cruiserweight Luke Watkins the chief support to world middleweight contender Eamonn O’Kane.

And the Swindon fighter says that training alongside Watkins and O’Kane has been enjoyable.

“We have good banter between each other and we are almost like a family,” Kelly said.

“We have got the Duke and King Kane and we do a lot of our training together. We complain and moan about diets together - we have a laugh.”

Kelly says that he has been preparing for his clash with Pakistan-born opponent Khan since before the turn of the year.

And the unbeaten boxer says that he is not daunted by tackling a southpaw so early in his career.

“He is a southpaw and looks awkward. He has got a winning record, so I expect a tough fight,” Kelly added.

“I treat every fight like it is going to be the hardest fight I’ve ever had in my life.

“The first two I have been in with were out-and-out orthodox fighters. They had a more hands up style, this guy is more relaxed.

“He has a fast-twitch style. I hope that he isn’t too awkward on the night but I’m looking forward to it.”

Following his debut in November at the Oasis, Kelly went out to Denmark for his second outing and he is looking forward to getting in front of his hometown fans once more.

“(The Oasis) is a great venue. When it is filled up there is a wicked little atmosphere” he said.

“I would never would have imagined being a sportsman as a young kid. Most kids grow up dreaming to be a footballer.

“I probably had that dream too as a young kid but I grew out of it when I realised just how slim the chances were.

“Being such a big boxing fan and being able to stand up in front of my hometown is the best feeling in the world.”

There will be a public weigh-in for O’Kane and Watkins at 7pm this evening at the Oasis, followed by a final press conference.
