KELVIN Young’s has taken a big stride on the road to redemption after he was handed a British super-middleweight title eliminator shot.

The British Boxing Board of Control announced this morning that the Penhill pugilist will face Sheffield’s Liam Cameron in an event to be promoted by Yorkshire-based Dennis Hobson.

However, before Young can think about facing Cameron, who called out the 27-year-old last summer, he must deal with Joe Walsh tonight at the Oasis Leisure Centre on the World Awaits bill.

Following that six-round contest, Young, who suffered a shock defeat back in November in his last fight, will then travel to Portsmouth to face undefeated light-heavyweight Chris Hobbs for a British Masters Bronze title.

Young said: "I can't think about the Cameron fight right now, I have to get back winning against Joe Walsh.

“The future is looking great, I have got three fights lined up and I have just got to take it one fight at a time.

“I saw that he called me out, but I was already scheduled to fight, I said to him that that it was a fight I'm willing to have if it is right.

“He has got some great pedigree, he is a former ABA champion, he is probably looking at me thinking that this is a winnable fight, but I'll be there, I'll be back to winning ways”

Young’s manager Keith Mayo said: “This is a good fight for Kelvin, but a tough one.

“Kelvin is back to his old self and we should see that tomorrow night.”

Back in June, Cameron, who is IBO youth super-middleweight champion, contacted the Advertiser, after seeing that Young had been floored in his brutal war with Tchoffo, and said: “I know that I can beat him. I don’t rate him and he should fight a proper opponent.”

Meanwhile, Lawrence Bennett is moving closer to a shot at the English title after the board ordered a fight with former Commonwealth cruiserweight champion Tony Conquest.
