LEWIS Varey made a successful debut for the newly-formed Cirencester Amateur Boxing Club.

The 11-year-old, competing in a 44kg contest, was up against Torfean Warriors’ Leo Jenkins, who had previously won one bout.

However, Varey started to pick off the home boxer, landing some left and right-hand straight punches and looking very comfortable on his feet.

Varey caught Jenkins with a straight right hand, which resulted on him stumbling onto the ropes.

The Ciren fighter upped his game and he continued to catch Jenkins with continuous combination punches, which resulted in Varey winning on a unanimous points decision.

Cirencester coach Simon Knowles said: “Lewis did everything he was told to do - he boxed brilliantly.”
