RYAN Martin is relishing the opportunity of being the headline act in the summer after maintaining his perfect professional record last night.

The rising welterweight star eased his way to a comfortable shut out success over Swansea's Matthew Ashmole at the GL1 Leisure Centre in Gloucester.

And now plans are afoot for a show in Swindon this June where the former Walcot and England amateur will be the main event.

"I'm looking forward to it," Martin told the Advertiser. "I'm not in the sport be boxing first on the shows.

"I want to be at the top - that is where we are heading."

Against Ashmole, Martin was in cruise control throughout the four rounds throwing some stinging six-punch combinations that had the Welshman wincing in pain.

But Martin also showed signs of IBF world featherweight title challenger Lee Selby during the contest having spent time sparring with the 'Barry Mayweather' before this fight.

"I admire the way that Lee puts out pop shots, he shows the judges that he is being busy without burning too much energy," the 21-year-old said.

"That was what I was trying to do, keep the jab out look like I'm working, but really I'm nicking the rounds without too much work."

But Martin knew that when he going up against the Welshman, who has now lost all 25 of his professional fights, that he was giving up height and weight advantage.

Yet, despite Ashmole being a natural light-middleweight, Martin never looked in trouble and for the most part of the contest stayed out of range.

"My speed deals with that (disadvantage) better than anything, if I'm beating them to the punch it doesn't matter how tall they are, they are worried to let there hands go.

"I thought that I hurt him a little bit.

"He was light-middleweight so he is always going to be able to take a shot. I thought I hurt in the first round, I thought that I would be able to get him out.

"I wanted to let him know that I was there and let him know that I was strong and not let him start coming in with big shots and keep him at bay.

"It worked, once I caught him with a couple of shots I don't think he was too interested."
