PADDY Fitzpatrick will take both Luke Watkins and Garvey Kelly to the USA later this year when George Groves meets Badou Jack for the WBC world super-middleweight title.

Groves, who is trained by Fitzpatrick and manages both of the Swindon fighters, will meet the American-based Swede later this summer on the undercard of pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather’s next fight, which is likely to be in September.

Although the chances of Watkins and Kelly being on the same bill as Groves are slim, Fitzpatrick says his cruiserweight and welterweight, who are both set to box at the York Hall on July 18, will make the journey in the bid to have bouts while stateside.

“At the moment we are still waiting for a date for George’s fight,” Fitzpatrick said. “But when we do go over, we will go about three weeks before so that we can acclimatise properly.

“Duke (Watkins) and Garv will come out too. In (Las) Vegas there are always shows on before a big fight so we will look to get them a fight.

“The sparring out there is also good so there are many experiences for them to have.”

Fitzpatrick says that he is talks with both Spike O’Sullivan and Billy-Joe Saunders’ representatives about a potential clash with his middleweight Eamonn O’Kane.

The Northern Irishman successfully defended his IBF inter-continental title against Lewis Taylor in May.

Now his trainer and manager is plotting the next month for his fighter, who is ranked seven in the World by the IBF.

“There have been talks with Spike and his people and that would be a huge fight for Ireland,” Fitzpatrick said.

“Spike and Eamonn are both open to having the fight and they have been talking on Twitter.

“We have also been speaking to Frank Warren about a fight with Billy-Joe.

“Billy-Joe is the number one for Andy Lee’s (WBO) title and that is a good position to be in.

“This is the tougher option for Eamonn, and that is no disrespect to Spike, both are tough fights for Eamonn, we will just see what develops.”

Meanwhile, Kelvin Young will face Stoke super-middleweight Mark Till on the New Generation show, which sees Ryan Martin top the bill ion an eight-round contest with Faheem Khan, later this month.

The Penhill pugilist was added to the bill at the Grange Drive Community Centre last week following the cancellation of his bout with Kevin Greenwood in a Southern Area title eliminator.

But now the 28-year-old will stay active with a clash against Till, who has only won two of his 17 contests.
