RYAN Martin has been forced to withdraw from his fight next Saturday.

The rising welterweight star was set to headline the New Generation show at the Grange Drive Community Centre against Faheem Khan in his first eight-round contest.

However, the 21-year-old, who had won all four of his professional fights, suffered a shoulder injury in training and has been ruled out.

The former England and Walcot amateur hurt the shoulder at the start of last week and although his manager Keith Mayo says that the injury is getting better all the time, they just could not take the risk.

“It is just unfortunate timing,” Mayo said. “We have left it as long as we could but we had to make a decision.

“We could have got him a cortisone injection but he was still feeling it when he was hitting the bag.

“He missed sparring last week and he hasn’t done any this week – he just missed too much.

“He’ll probably be back in the gym in a couple of weeks, but this was such an important fight that we couldn’t take the risk.”

With Martin now off the bill, Mayo says that he is likely to elevate former IBO inter-continental super-middleweight champion Kelvin Young to the main act.

The 28-year-old Penhill pugilist is set to face Mark Till over four three-minute rounds.

Swindon-based former Commonwealth Games javelin bronze medallist and England netball international Kelly Morgan makes her debut against former super-middleweight world title challenger Szilvia Szabados, who is ranked fourth in the world at middleweight.

Former England and Walcot amateur Danny Bharj makes his second outing in the paid ranks when he tackles durable journeyman Matt Seawright.

Akeem Ennis-Brown, from Gloucester, makes his debut at light-welterweight against Reading-based veteran Ibrar Riyaz, and another new Mayo signing, Bryn Wain, makes his debut against the Richard Farnan-trained Lewis van Poetsch.
